The Guitar Club’s usual “Red Room” venue was unavailable this month, but we were able to meet next door in the Wesley Room in the lower level of the church building at 1040 East Avenue. Besides the Round Robin session, we had two demonstrations of interest. First, Kinloch Nelson brought his nine-foot long Diddy Bow, a one-string guitar that covering the entire note range of a typical guitar. It is played using a steel bar in the left hand, and plucking the string with the right hand. Kinloch played “Sleepwalk” on the Diddy Bow, accompanied on rhythm guitar by John Williamson. Kinloch also offered everyone the opportunity to try out the Diddy Bow for themselves.
Then, Tom Martin demonstrated some lead guitar playing techniques using his Fender GDEC amplifier and his digital delay “stomp box.” The GDEC amp has built-in digital drums, effects, a looper, as well as amplifier modeling. Tom was able to use the amp and his electric guitar to record a rhythm track and then play solos over the rhythm track. Who knew being a lead guitar player was so easy!
